Lliam Rooney – Freelance Botanist, Botanical Photographer & Artist
I’m a freelance botanist, botanical photographer, and artist with a lifelong fascination for the natural world and over two decades of experience working with plants in both scientific and creative contexts.
Since 1999, I’ve been photographing plants—capturing their intricate beauty and ecological importance. My work has been featured in books, national newspapers, magazines, scientific journals, and even on a Royal Mail stamp. Alongside my photography, I’ve been working as a botanical recorder since 2010, contributing to plant conservation and research through detailed fieldwork and species identification.
I offer botanical expertise and visual content for ecological consultancy firms, publishers, creative agencies, and individuals looking for high-quality, accurate plant imagery or botanical knowledge. My approach blends scientific precision with artistic expression—perfect for projects that demand both clarity and beauty.
Beyond my freelance work, I’m passionate about sharing the wonder of plants with others. I lead botanical walks and workshops that invite people to slow down, look closely, and reconnect with the natural world. Whether you’re a plant lover, a professional looking to sharpen your ID skills, or someone seeking nature-based experiences for well-being, I aim to create meaningful, memorable encounters with the green world.
At the heart of everything I do is a deep respect for plants and a belief in their power to inspire, teach, and heal.
